Terra Madre Day at Kwalapa

November 10, 2009

Past Events

Good news! Early in 2010, Cape Town will have a new Slow Food group (or convivium, as the Italians like to call it): Slow Food Mother City. We will be offering regular events that celebrate good, clean and fair food. So if you’re interested in farm visits, picnics, CSAs, artisan food demonstrations and tastings, as well as meeting like-minded Capetonians, read on.

On Thursday 10 December we’ll be celebrating Slow Food’s international Terra Madre Day with an intimate function in Newlands. This is your chance to learn more about the Slow Food movement, and tell us what type of events you would like to see and be part of in 2010.

Slow Food believes in peoples’ right to access good, clean and fair food. This first ever worldwide Slow Food Terra Madre Day is a global celebration of local cuisines and handmade, artisan food traditions, uniting all Slow Food supporters in promoting agricultural biodiversity, traditional food knowledge and environmentally sustainable growing and eating. That’s besides it being simply an opportunity to indulge in excellent food and conversations, of course.

Please join us on Terra Madre Day, to enjoy three of life’s simple pleasures: bread, wine and good company. Under the trees at the beautiful new Kwalapa Organic Wholefoods Centre in Newlands, you’ll find wine from Avondale, cheese from Dalewood, caponata by Eatability and bread from Paulo.

Numbers are limited, so if you’d like to attend, please let us know by November 30th.

This sounds like a brilliant step forward, just what many people want to respond to and in line with the values people’s minds are turning to – very inspiring!

Thanks, Sally! Yes, there is definitely a shift towards supporting local, organic, small producers, and we hope to support them in every way we can.
