Madame Fromage is a small new Boutique Cheesery in the centre of Paarl which opened almost a year ago. Ulrike, their talented German cheese maker was originally at Anura and the cheesery was opened by three eldery ladies from Franschhoek who have invested in her business. The cheesery receives fresh raw milk from a local farmer which they then pasteurise themselves. The cheeses are handcrafted and matured accordingly.
Our members have been nagging us to have a cheese event and so we are excited to invite you join us for a tour and tasting at Madame Fromage this month. The event will include a tour of the cheesery with an explanation of the cheese making process, followed (of course!) by a tasting of the delicious cheeses they make. You will receive a goodie bag with some cheese in it and you will also be able to buy additional cheese if you would like to take more home with you.
The range includes:
- White mould cheeses (brie, camembert and cambrieni) made the traditional French way.
- Fleurs flavoured with herbs or chilli. A small round semi soft cheese with a creamy flavour.
- Bergriver Cheese (former Mountain Cheese) which is a 12 months matured alpine style hard cheese with a fine nutty flavour.
Find more information on the Madame Fromage Facebook page.
To view the cheese making process we have to be there during working hours, so this is a week-day event (10th September 2014, 11am). The cost of the event is R75 for members and R100 for non-members. The tasting and goodie bag is included in the price. Space is limited in the factory so we can only take 20 people for this event.
