Dear Slow Food enthusiast
We are pleased to have been able to organise a very rare and interesting event around olive oil. With the experienced guidance of Willie Duminy, the owner and olive oil maker of Andante Olive oils, we will taste oils from individual varieties of olives, to get an understanding of their characteristics. Then we will taste the blend of the oils to experience the balanced final product which has earned Andante so many awards. Andante had 2 of their oils selected in the SA Top 5 olive oil awards last year, along with several other local & international awards over the years.
Apart from giving some background about Andante, Willie will also share a bit about how olives are grown, harvested and turned into olive oil. He will talk briefly about the olive oil industry in South Africa and reveal why you definitely want to buy local oils rather than the cheap imported options available in most supermarkets.
We have arranged for the tasting to take place at Thornton Whites, a new restaurant in town. There will be some tapas served on arrival to keep the hunger at bay. We recommend staying for dinner after the event and enjoying the fine food served at this establishment.
The cost of the event will be R95 for members and R120 for non-members, this will include a 500ml bottle of Andante olive oil and the welcome tapas. Drinks will be for your own account. We have limited spaces at this very special event, so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
