Slow Food Mother City

This morning, Slow Food Mother City members (and guests) went mushroom-hunting in Tokai Forest.  We’ll be writing up a report-back soon, but for now, take a look at these pics of all the fungi action.

Last night I discovered something I suppose I ought to have known. Something I should have guessed at, but never thought to question… All beer is not equal. All beer is not flung together in the space of a few days to pump out to the masses. All beer is not crafted with care, using only natural ingredients and no added preservatives, colourants or any other ‘funny’ stuff.

Some beer is special. Some beer takes 12 weeks to create and should be savoured just as respectfully. Some beer can blow a girl’s mind.

Not a Slow Food Mother City event, but one we feel fits the bill, and in which you may be interested! Saltare is a boutique winery in Stellenbosch which creates wines using biodynamic principles. They are also pledged to keeping the production of their wines carbon neutral. The Saltare Food & Wine Pairing will take place on Saturday March the 6th at the Oude Libertas Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market.

Slow Food Mother City invites you to join us this February for a beer and food pairing experience at &Union. On the evenings of 23 and 25 February 2010, we will be introduced to the world of unfiltered, lovingly crafted artisan beer.

Slow Food Mother City will be giving a brief presentation at next week’s Newlands-based Green Drinks. We’d love to meet all you fellow Slow Food enthusiasts out there, and we’ll be giving more details on our planned events and expeditions for the year ahead.
